Destino

ID:1308

Opened in May 16, 2000, by Owner and Executive Chef James Schenk, Destino proudly presents South American cuisine with a contemporary twist.

Conveniently located at 1815 Market Street between Valencia and Guerrero Streets, Destino hosts a warmly lit dining area and full bar. Their exclusive wine list features selections from South America, Spain, and California.

Year after year, organizations and magazines give top honors to Destino for cuisine. The San Francisco Chronicle, 7X7, The New York Times, and Evening Magazine have all praised James and Destino.

After rave reviews of their Alfajores, Destino now offers their South American shortbread cookies in gift tins. They're featured at Gump's.

Active in the San Francisco community, Destino plays host to a range of social events, from art exhibitions to wedding receptions, and participates in Dine About Town.

Embracing the diverse contributions of a larger community, James has developed a series of culinary tours for people interested in a rich experience of Latin cuisine and culture abroad, in countries such as Peru and Argentina.

Destino has changed forms over the past 8 years. Initially the concept was inspired by a cafe in Madrid called "Nuevo Cafe Barbieri" in Lavapies.

This cafe was my living room—a haven of memories, entertainment, and really good cafe con leche.

I realized that San Francisco lacked this bistro-style feel where people could relax and have a great experience. Instead, the city has been plagued with a generic and emotionless industry where the focus is placed more on the prestige of a location instead of the passion that was used to create it.

Destino began as a dream and is now a reality. It will continue to serve as a vehicle—a place where people can dine, enjoy, and relish the joy of life.

- James Schenk
